How long does it take to improve egg quality?

· Dr. Priyanka, BNYS

It is one of the first questions couples ask, and it deserves a straight answer: around three months.

Why ninety days

An egg does not appear fully formed in the cycle it is released. It goes through a maturation process lasting roughly ninety days, and throughout that window the developing follicle is sensitive to its environment — nutritional status, blood sugar, thyroid function, inflammation and oxidative stress.

This is genuinely good news. It means the choices of the next three months influence the eggs that will be released after them.

What matters most in that window

  • Correcting identified deficiencies — folate, B12, vitamin D, iron, zinc and omega-3 are the ones that come up repeatedly.
  • Blood sugar stability, which matters enormously where PCOD is part of the picture.
  • Thyroid function, where fertility guidance generally targets a tighter range than standard reference ranges suggest.
  • Reducing sustained stress, which alters the hormonal signalling that governs ovulation.

Both partners, not one

Sperm production runs on a similar cycle of about seventy-four days, and a male factor contributes in roughly half of couples who struggle to conceive. Working on one partner alone is leaving half the picture untouched.

What this does not replace

Where there is a structural or medical cause requiring assisted reproduction, IVF or IUI is the appropriate treatment and naturopathic care runs alongside it, never instead of it. If you are already under a fertility specialist, the plan is built around their treatment and its timing.
