Pain Management

Persistent pain is rarely just a local problem, and rarely solved by rest alone.

Book Free 20-Min Consultation

Chronic pain behaves differently from acute injury. Where pain persists beyond normal healing time, the nervous system itself becomes more sensitised — pain signalling amplifies, and the original tissue damage may no longer be the main driver.

This is why rest and painkillers alone so often disappoint. It also explains why graded movement, sleep, stress and nutrition all measurably influence pain levels, which surprises many people.

The aim here is to reduce pain and restore function, using approaches that do not rely on escalating medication.

Signs you may recognise

  • Back or neck pain lasting more than three months
  • Joint pain or stiffness, particularly in the morning
  • Pain that worsens with prolonged sitting or desk work
  • Recurring headaches or migraines
  • Pain that disturbs your sleep
  • Increasing reliance on painkillers

Recognising several of these does not confirm a diagnosis. It is a reason to have it looked at properly.

What we look at underneath

Central sensitisation

In persistent pain the nervous system amplifies signals, so pain can be experienced with less provocation. This is a genuine physiological change, not imagination.

Deconditioning

Avoiding movement to protect a painful area weakens supporting muscle, which typically increases pain over time. The instinct to rest often backfires.

Postural and occupational load

Long hours seated, poorly set-up workstations and repetitive movement patterns sustain the strain that keeps pain going.

Inflammation and nutrition

Dietary pattern, body weight and nutrient status all influence inflammatory load and how joints behave.

Sleep and stress

Poor sleep lowers pain threshold measurably, and pain disrupts sleep — a loop that needs breaking from both ends.

How Dr. Priyanka approaches it

  1. Assess before treating

Identifying what is driving your pain, and screening for anything requiring imaging or orthopaedic referral before conservative treatment proceeds.

  2. Graded movement, not rest

Carefully progressed loading rebuilds capacity and reduces sensitisation. The progression is deliberate and paced, because doing too much too soon sets things back.

  3. Therapeutic yoga

Targeted mobility and stabilisation work for the affected region, with contraindicated movements excluded.

  4. Acupuncture where appropriate

Among the better-evidenced applications of acupuncture, particularly for chronic lower back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis and tension headache. Available in person at Coimbatore.

  5. Sleep, stress and nutrition

Addressed as genuine components of pain management rather than as afterthoughts, because each measurably affects pain threshold.

What your plan may include

  • Assessment of your pain pattern and functional limits
  • A graded movement and loading programme
  • A therapeutic yoga sequence for the affected region
  • Anti-inflammatory nutrition guidance
  • Workstation and daily posture adjustments
  • Acupuncture where indicated, in person at Coimbatore
  • Sleep strategies aimed at raising pain threshold

Common questions

Should I rest a painful back?

Usually not beyond the first day or two. Current guidance for most non-specific lower back pain favours staying as active as tolerable, because prolonged rest weakens supporting muscle and tends to prolong the problem.

When do I need a scan?

Most back pain does not require imaging. It becomes important where there are red flags — numbness or weakness in the legs, bladder or bowel changes, unexplained weight loss, fever, or pain following significant trauma. Those need prompt medical assessment, and we will refer you.

Can arthritis pain be managed naturally?

Osteoarthritis responds well to appropriate strengthening, weight management where relevant and anti-inflammatory nutrition. Inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis requires rheumatological management, alongside which supportive care can help.

Can I be treated for pain online?

Assessment, movement programmes, nutrition and sleep work all translate well to video consultation. Acupuncture and any hands-on treatment require an in-person appointment in Coimbatore.
